Dozuki -
Versatile Japanese saw for woodworking
The Dozuki is one of the three main types of Japanese handsaws. It is characterized by specific features such as the reinforcement of the saw blade by a metal back and the straight cutting technique on pull. The finest teeth, ground on three sides, enable particularly precise cuts, which is why the Dozuki is particularly popular with woodworkers and carpenters.
Features of the Dozuki
Saw blade with back reinforcement:
A steel back stabilizes the saw blade of the Dozuki and thus enables precise saw guidance for straight cuts and clean cutting edges.
Finest tooth geometry:
The Dozuki has very fine, sharp pull teeth ground on three sides for fine and precise cuts in hardwoods.
Short cutting length:
Due to the steel back, the Dozuki only allows a limited cutting depth. This is ideal for cutting battens or producing wooden joints (tenons, slots, dovetails).
Easy handling:
Dozukis are handy and particularly light. The long handle is made of wrapped wood or plastic. Thanks to the pulling technique used when sawing, less force is required and more precise cuts are possible than with classic western hand saws.
Various models:
In our
saw shop
we offer short and long Dozukis with a raffia or comfort grip. The mini Dozuki with a blade length of 150 mm is ideal for craft work and hard-to-reach areas. Dozukis with a blade length of 240 mm are ideal for fine carpentry work and wood joints. Replacement saw blades are also available for some models.

Using the Dozuki Japanese saw
The Dozuki saw works on pull, which means that the cut is made when the saw is pulled towards the body. This keeps the blade thin and ensures a clean, tear-free cut.
Fixing the workpiece
The wood should be securely clamped or well fixed.
Position the saw and start gently
Position the saw at a slight angle and without applying pressure. The first few strokes should be careful to ensure a precise cut.
Smooth, fine sawing
Work with light pressure on tension without tilting the blade. The Dozuki allows you to saw precisely and cleanly right to the end.

Care and storage
After use, clean the saw blade with a cloth and store in a dry place to prevent rust. For additional rust protection, rub the saw blade regularly with camellia oil or a multi-spray.
Remove stubborn dirt and resin residues with alcohol or a special cleaner. Then dry the saw thoroughly.
Regularly check the cutting edge quality of permanently mounted blades. Replace blunt saw blades.
